We were asked by our clients to investigate the feasibility of designing a small house for their son within the extensive garden of their home in North Berwick.

The house is carefully arranged in plan and section to maximise sunlight and views while minimising overlooking and overshadowing of neighbouring gardens and properties. Its compact form responds both to the constraints and opportunities of the site, creating a considered new home within the established garden setting.

A simple palette of traditional Scottish materials including harling, natural slate and lead flashings, provides a familiar East Lothian architectural character, complemented by contemporary detailing.
