House on a Hill Morphie Aberdeenshire

This is a seductive and welcoming building which takes maximum advantage from its setting through an architecture of consummate understatement.

RIBA Judges statement 2010

A contemporary addition to a traditional cottage, this unassuming and robust intervention sits comfortably within the evolving narrative of a site that has been continuously occupied for over two centuries.

Designed to endure and adapt for future generations, the architecture embraces a sense of good ordinariness, a pragmatic and thoughtful response to both the client’s brief and the site’s potential. The outcome is a modest yet confident extension, developed without formal agenda or stylistic polemic, but with quiet clarity and respect for its context.
